MUMBAI: Brace for 72-hour mega block on the Harbour between February 12 and 14 as Central Railway plans to undertake extension work of platform No. 1 and 2 at CST for running of 12-car harbour line trains.
Both, WR and CR's main line have 12 and 15-car trains but harbour line still run with 9-car coaches.
CR official said, "The 72-hour block is required at CST so that we can start running 12-car trains by the start of next financial year. During the block days, we plan to operate trains from Wadala."
This means that there will be no trains between CST-Wadala for 71 hours between February 12 and 14.
According to estimates, passenger growth on the Harbour Line stood at 10% per annum as against 3% registered by the Main line of Central Railway as well as the Western Railway.
Once the work is completed, CR will be able to run 12-car rakes with a capacity of 2,300 passengers on the Harbour line, compared to just about 1,750 in the existing 9-car rakes
Total work on this project, including augmentation of the existing nine-car fleet to 12 cars, is estimated to cost Rs 800 crore.
